Doug and I spent summers together as kids when our parents would see each other in San Jose, California. It was faith that brought our families together and we grew up in church, but it would take a long time for us to begin to walk in that faith as adults. We parted as teenagers when Doug’s parents moved to Arizona and sadly, we weren’t sure if we would ever see each other again. We both married and had three beautiful children each; but unfortunately, life was difficult without faith as our compass and each of us ended up divorced.
Ten years ago, we were both at a point in our lives when we were finally ready to give our hearts to the Lord and completely surrender. Soon after this we reconnected and were so excited to be in each other’s lives again, but things were not going to be easy. Doug was still raising his children in Arizona, and I had my youngest still at home in California. We did not want to uproot our children from all they knew so we began to drive. We crossed the desert to see each other as often as we could, and so began our nightly conversations and reading through God’s Word.
We grabbed some Bibles and started reading. We started at the beginning and read together chapter by chapter, verse by verse, precept upon precept. His Word finally started to be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We wrestled through things we didn’t understand and grew through every word, allowing it to change our hearts and transform our thinking. It continues to refine us and rescue us from ourselves every day as we sit to read, and that has become our heart for others. “He sent His Word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions” (Psalms 107:20 NKJV).
So began our passion to make sure everyone around us has a Bible in their hands. We live in a society where many profess to be Christians; however, they have never read His Word. God has impressed on our hearts that He wants Biblical literacy in these last days in which we live, and in this digital age it is vital to make sure everyone has an actual Bible that can’t be altered digitally.
If you are visiting this site, it is not by accident. God is either beckoning you to get a Bible for someone you care about or to take hold of His Word for yourself. He may also be speaking to your heart to join us in helping others have access to His Word. We have already seen so many lives transformed by the giving of Bibles and this nonprofit organization is for this sole purpose. Doug and I have seen all of the major Christian bookstores collapse in our lifetime, and are being told, even now, that this endeavor is futile. But God…
This is where “our story” becomes “His story.” I’ve been a special education teacher for over twenty years and Doug an operations supervisor. Since we began this project, we have been surrounded by people who have been able to help us with every component. We all have the same vision and purpose, being knitted together in love, in Christ, to do all we can so that everyone gets a Bible in their hands and begins to make it their most precious treasure.
Partner with us in bringing back a Bible bookstore to our area and in getting a Bible into the hands of everyone who needs one. “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV).
